Mission Opportunities
We serve others through volunteering at My Brothers Keeper in downtown Waco. Our Youth and Youth Parents spread love and hope by providing food and fellowship for the temporarily displaced homeless of Waco. We bring dinner to the residents and hod an informal chapel service for them consisting of a few songs, brief testimony or devotional and praying together with them. This is a great way to serve as a family and its always a wonderful experience. Please see the online calendar for dates and times. To sign up, please email Jeb Barr at jeb@fellowshipbcwaco.org. Hope to see you there.
We also take offerings taken during youth meetings that go toward supporting our sponsored World Vision Hope Child.
Possibly THE biggest highlight of the year is our Summer Youth Mission Trip. Each year the Junior High and High School travel somewhere different to serve God in a new culture and environment. Whether we end up building houses, organizing food pantries, or painting outhouses (oh yeah!) we have a great time building one another up and discovering more about God has equipped us for His ministry. We meet a lot of new, sometimes quite interesting people along the way, and you’ll be stretched out of
your comfort zone. Many people have been inspired and called to do long-term mission work after being exposed to it on brief trips like this. Come see what God has in store for you! Go to FORMS to download a detailed information packet and application/medical release.
Past trips have been to New Mexico Indian territories where we spread God’s word and Jesus’ love through organizing Vacation Bible Schools and assist the local church leadership with whatever they ask — many times this will be through construction, administration, or caring for their children.
Leadership Opportunities
We seek to provide many opportunities for you to lead out and give back. Check out the following ways to be a part of God’s work in our youth ministry.
PRAISE/WORSHIP TEAM
Every other Wednesday night our Youth Praise team leads the group in worship. If you can sing or play an instrument (even if you are just learning) come to our practices every Sunday evening from 6:00 – 7:15 pm.
DRAMA TEAM
Drama presents a unique and artistic way to glorify God and point others to Him by presenting powerful messages in a visual format. If you’d like to give acting a try, come to our Sunday rehearsals at 4:00 pm.
AV TEAM
Run the computer or soundboard on Wednesday nights. We’ll be happy to train you. Get creative by putting the backgrounds to the song lyrics or just keep the mics and instruments balanced. If interested, come to our worship team practice every Sunday night from 6:00 – 7:15 pm. Talk to Jeb beforehand so that he knows you’re coming.
S.A.L.T. – Student Action Leadership Team
High School students have an opportunity to become an active part of planning and carrying out the vision of our youth ministry. Attend the youth leadership meetings with the adults (which include very good, free food). Give feedback and ideas and take on responsibilities in getting things done. Learn to lead by serving others. You may join at the beginning of the semester, and it’s a semester-long commitment. Click here to download the SALT Team application.
Other Opportunies
We look for other ways throughout the year to go as a gr
oup to serve people. Whether we are helping an elderly person in our church or serving Thanksgiving Dinner to the homeless at Mission Waco, know that we’ll have a blast doing it together!
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
– James 1:27
